UBB's Gala with Château Montrose
Beautiful gala dinner at the Palais de la Bourse in Bordeaux. The concept: a magnificent dinner and an auction of Bordeaux Grands Crus. The aim: to finance the training center of the UBB. If you don’t know what UBB means, it means Union Bordeaux Bègles. It’s the best rugby team in the Bordeaux region… excuse me the best rugby team in France!
Many big négociants and properties of Bordeaux were present at this evening,but also famous people such as the chief Philippe Etchebest, the mayor of Bordeaux Nicolas Florian, or Marc Vanhove (founder of the Bistro Régent restaurants chain).
Focus on the auctions, there were many prestigious wines such as Cheval Blanc, Angélus or Yquem often in big sizes up to the Primat (36 bottles or 27 litres).
The total amount gained was very good, with bottles burning auctions. No less than €214,000 were collected in total for 39 prizes, including 1prize benefiting especially for the association « Bordeaux solidaire » and composed of a Basketball jersey signed by Tony Parker (source UBB).
It was a wonderful evening and I sincerely hope that all this money will allow the UBB to continue in their direction.
The dinner and the wines
The dinner was signed by the chief Philippe Etchebest. We can highlight the very impressive performance offered to the 700 guests!
About the wines Château Montrose and Château Tronquoy-Lalande, both properties in Saint-Estephe, and both properties of the Bouygues family were on the tables and offered a very good pairing with the cuisine of Mr Etchebest. Do not not be afraid about words: they sublimated them!
Château Montrose 2006 in magnum size showed a great class, very complex. 2012 of Dame de Montrose is really one of the most beautiful second wines that a 1855 Grand Cru Classé can produce: at the same time accessible, complex and gourmand.
Château Tronquoy Lalande is the discreet neighbour of Château Montrose but it also offers wines with a very good level, more affordable financially. I strongly recommend to you the white wine, which is produced under the Bordeaux Blanc appellation… one of the best white wines produced on the Médoc area!
(White wines exist on the Médoc area but they cannot be labelled under the Médoc appellation name. Médoc appellation is strictly reserved for red wines)
