A very rare vertical tasting of Château Gazin, one of the most famous wines of the Pomerol appellation. For the localisation Château Gazin is the neighbor of the mythic « Pétrus ». This tasting was commented by the « De Bailliencourt » family, the owners of Château Gazin.
Les millésimes dégustés furent le 2016, le 2009, le 2005, le 2001 et pour le second vin, L’Hospitalet de Gazin dans le millésime 2014.

L’Hospitalet de Gazin 2014 est dominé par les fruits rouges comme la groseille. La profondeur de l’ensemble se révèle à l’agitation avec des notes d épices douces, très fines. On note également un très léger côté mentholé. Un vin accessible, sur les fruits, avec une finale assez puissante qui mériterait peut-être d’attendre un an pour s’équilibrer.
2014 of « L’ Hospitalet de Gazin » is dominated by red fruits as gooseberries. The blend is deep, complex, and revealed by very soft spices just after the aeration. We can also feel a fine herbaceous touch with some menthol. This wine is accessible, with a fruity style. The length is powerful and it should be great to wait just a little bit (one year) for its balance.

Château Gazin 2016 s’axe directement sur les fruits noirs, particulièrement le cassis. On retrouve aussi un côté floral avec des notes de violettes et des épices comme le poivre noir. La matière en bouche est très belle, les tannins sont présents, sans excès et très élégants. Finale longue, un vin impressionnant!
2016 of Château Gazin is more on the black fruits, especially blackcurrants. We feel floral notes as violets and also spiciness with black pepper. On the palate the texture is very beautiful, elegant. The tannins are present but without excess, and with a great quality. The length is long. Impressive wine!

Château Gazin 2009 a un goût de cassis, de prunes, des notes de truffes et de fines épices. Notes florales également avec des violettes. On est sur un vin très complexe et avec une belle matière en bouche. Avec 14% d’alcool on est sur un vin très puissant. L’élégance de Pomerol apparait par la suite en fin de bouche. Un vin qui demande encore du temps, mais quel vin!
2009 of Château Gazin has blackberries and plum tastes, also with truffles and soft spices. Floral notes as violets are also blended. It’s a very complex wine with a very beautiful texture on the palate. With 14 % of alcohol we can say it’s a strong wine. But just after thinking that, the charm of Pomerol came on the length. This wine needs time, but such an incredible wine!

Château Gazin 2005 impressionne par sa profondeur. La texture en bouche est vraiment très élégante. L’ assemblage est complexe, sur des fruits noirs éclatants: prunes, cerises noires, cassis. Le côté épicé se fond progressivement à l ensemble et la finale est longue, proportionnée. Un vin vraiment intéressant, très puissant, avec une grande longueur et un léger côté sous-bois qui commence à apparaitre.
2005 of Château Gazin is a very impressive wine, very deep. On the palate the texture is magnificent. The blend is complex, and the black fruits have an incredible taste: plums, dark cherries, blackberries… They are shining! Spiciness is gradually integrated to the mix and the length is long, very progressive. A very interesting wine, very strong with a big length. Tertiary notes especially forest floor just begin to grow up.

Château Gazin 2001 est sur un profil évolué avec des notes tertiaires: fruits rouges séchés, cerises limite kirsh, épices rouges, poivre. Un côté sous bois et des notes mentholées viennent agrémenter l’ensemble. Le vin s’en retrouve rafraichit. Personnellement je le trouve très intéressant et avec encore de belles choses à raconter. Pour vous témoigner de la puissance de ce 2001 je l’ai trouvé incroyable sur un pairing avec… du chorizo!
2001 of Château Gazin is on the tertiary notes. Dried red fruits, dried cherries, kirsch, spices, pepper. Also forest floor with menthol who allows to refresh the palate. For me it’s a very interesting wine with potential. To express the power of this wine, I tried a difficult pairing with chorizo … and it works!
